Who actually buys this crap?

Yeah, because the western mythology is just a perfect fit for robots and manga! I’d give them credit for originality, but it sounds more like them trying to cash in with the coolness factor of manga and robots to hook kids into Christianity. Come on kids, the first hit’s only $2.99. A cheap price when your soul is at stake.
Kids aren’t fooled that easily. When will people learn that adding religion into something doesn’t make it automatically cool? They’ve tried it with video games, not to mention music, for years, and it’s not caught on. Even Hank Hill gets it. His response to Bobby listening to punk-Christian rock: Can’t you see you’re not making Christianity better, you’re just making rock and roll worse?

I’m going to admit at that price, I’m tempted to buy it myself. But maybe I need to wait till I can get a boxed set with Mecha Manga Greco-Roman Mythology, Mecha Manga Badass Buddhists, etc. I always thought some of the bible stories were kind of dry and uninspiring, but it never occurred to me to add giant robots to spice them up.
Several years ago, at OKC’s opening night new year’s festivities, I braved the cold to spend the night standing in a parking garage and listen to the only metal and punk bands playing there. Turned out the metal band was actually a Christian rock band, but amazingly enough, they were a decent metal band. Only time I’ve seen the addition of religion not make rock suck. I wish I could remember the name of the band.

Just so you know, there are more serious-minded Christians out there who think this stuff is absolute garbage.
