A happy day indeed

November 19th, 2007 by Jessika

Yesterday at noon Pacific Time, Wil Wheaton put out the hardcover, limited numbered signed edition of his newest book The Happiest Days of Our Lives. I had been waiting for that day ever since I heard they would be available, since the chance I’d get to meet him to actually sign a copy would be small. I’m still hoping he’ll make it out to Oklahoma at some point, or me to a Con he is attending. As a side note, if any fellow Oklahomans haven’t gone to Eventful and demanded Wil, do it now!

When I hit the Monolith site, and saw it was ready, I clicked the link to order. I was very disappointed when I clicked the confirm button only to see I had some kind of restriction put on my PayPal account! They had locked it from any money going out until I verified I was who I said I was. I immediately panicked, and posted on Wil’s blog while I waited on hold with PayPal that I may miss out.

Little did I realize how kind an internet stranger would be. A fellow Wil fan offered to buy a copy for me, and we’d work out the money/book exchange. His offer wasn’t needed though, since after a few minutes my account was freed and my order went through.

The sense of community in Wil’s blog had never felt stronger that day for me. Not only did Bill’s offer touch me, but a few people even gave a “Yay!” Including Wil himself! Hawesome. (Look just a few comments below mine and you’ll see it!)

That is why I love reading Wil. He’s not another “celebrity”, in fact he hates when people call him that, he’s a part of the whole geek community. He’s one of us, and proud of it. I’m proud to be a part of it with him and all the other fellow In Exile readers. Makes this geek all warm and fuzzy.

Now I just have to wait to get my book so I can start reading!

Ideas are bulletproof

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

A very happy Bonfire/Guy Fawkes Night to all! Ah, to be able to visit London again on this night would be great. I was there during my honeymoon 5 years ago, watching the bonfires and hearing fireworks go off in the neighborhoods near our hotel.

In honor of the holiday, read or watch V for Vendetta. Me, I think I’ll order me a Remember, Remember shirt.

People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.
